School
Decline and Failure (pdf file)
Kay Hawk’s doctoral research explored the process of school
decline, through to failure, with a view to learning what can be
done to prevent it. The research describes what was happening to
the adults in positions of leadership in the schools during the
decline phases and why certain interventions were not effective.
School decline is very complex. If it wasn’t, we would have
stopped it.
There are early signs of potential problems that can be addressed
and there are messages about how we might prevent the problems that
result in a decline. This power point outlines the things school
leaders can do to keep their school from being at risk. Download

Themes (pdf
file)
Schools need to document their philosophical and operational positions.
There is a range of options available to schools in how they organize
this documentation. These options include the charter (including
strategic and annual plans), board manuals, policies, procedures
(including a staff handbook), curriculum documents and action plans.
